Education &
Projects
"To promote the link betw`een ecology, economy and community in the Columbia Gorge"
is the mission of our parent organization, the Columbia Gorge Earth Center
Related to that mission is the Gorge Rebuild-it Center's underlying goal to
"foster sustainable building design in the Columbia Gorge."
The following projects highlight our efforts to meet these goals.
Green Building
Columbia Gorge Earth Center's 8th Annual
Enviro-House Tour
This is a self-guided tour of environmentally friendly homes in the Gorge, so that you can see a variety of techniques and materials for building or remodeling your home with a lower cost to the environment.
From straw bale walls to solar panels, you can see the homes and hear the stories of local people doing their part to make a difference.
You can Click Here to see an overview of the homes featured in past tours. Thanks to all of the homeowners who have opened up their homes in order to educate us about cutting-edge and environmentally-friendly building practices!
Workshops
From time to time, we host workshops on environmentally-friendly building practices or materials through the Film & Lecture Series of our parent organization, the Columbia Gorge Earth Center, presenting on topics like solar power, retail lighting efficiency, new building efficiency, and renewable energy programs. For more information about upcoming events, click on the link to the Earth Center! We want the Gorge Rebuild-it Center to evolve into an information hub for green building design, complete with a resource library and information about alternative building products, codes, local builders, and services. We remind interested folks that our education goals are presently limited by a lack of human resources to implement. We are always searching for volunteers who have specialized knowledge or training and/or the time to help us foster local discussion about sustainable building design. Check for future workshops.
